Afghanistanhilfe finances the construction of school buildings in various regions of the country.  There are still too few of these available and often children are taught in the open or just in simple tents. Girls in particular only have restricted access to lessons or even none at all as it lacks in infrastructure and also owed to the fact that boys are preferred.

More often than not, the existing school buildings have no chairs and tables. And especially in case of girls sitting on damp ground is detrimental to their health (bladder infections). Afghanistanhilfe wants to help here, too, by financing school furniture.

Once a school building is constructed, the building is handed over to the state. The state meets the running costs of operating the school and also dictates the contents of lessons. At least English lessons are offered to all pupils in the syllabus on an obligatory basis.
